A gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a buff background bearing a scarlet disk, surmounted by one black "I" beam in a horizontal position surmounted by a green quadrate with one angle up, overall a vertical black "I" beam of the same size as the first and charged at the center with a white five-pointed star, all between a gold scroll folded back at the top and inscribed "READINESS" and in base a scroll of the like inscribed "IS SUPPORT" all in black letters.
The two "I" beams symbolize the unit's mission to provide organizational structure and support. The scarlet disk alludes to combat service support, control and also mobility. The star and the green square symbolize oak-shaded Capitol Square in Raleigh, North Carolina, headquarters of the Group. Buff and scarlet are colors used by Support units.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 19 March 1971.
